The more the self can vanish sl meaningless, the better. Quotes from Libro del desasos The collected notes that make up The Book of Disquiet are not poems per se but rather sad and poetic ruminations, anthologized posthumously and attributed to one of Pessoa’s personas known as Bernardo Soares, a man who worked by day as a bookkeeper in Lisbon and by night as a incredible sadsack. Its closest fictional parallel is Dostoyevsky’s “Notes from Underground”. One source of frustration is that, upon completing it, I discovered that the version I had read translated by Margaret Jull Costa was pages, whereas the Penguin Classics version translated by Richard Zenith is pages.
Regardless, the fact that this issue occurred at all points to another cause of my frustration.
Richard Zenith includes not only fragments Fernando Pessoa didn’t want in, but also author notes, and letters to friends concerning the book. Must be the result of years of living a solitary life while writing these diaries. Not to put too fine a point on it, this book blows. Thanks to my brother Joselito for highly recommending this book to me. He is exasperated with his surroundings and yet, is thankful for them.
The Book of Disquiet is utterly fascinating. Paperbackpages.

It’s not lirbo the book is horrible. This book doesn’t tell standard story. The wise shirk the disquiet Of other men’s existence, And defy successive tragedies With consummate indifference. I’m glad to see that it has been over a year now, with a lot of reads some As I clicked the “I’m finished” button on Goodreads, I must admit that I felt a sense of relief.

Eu pergunto-me se um homem que nunca fodeu pode ser um bom escritor. Happiness is easy, even if it is at times short lived. Credit 3 14 Nov 17, Unless pessooa you love stuff like this, it is a skip for me. After Pessoa died, a trunk filled with his unpublished and unfinished writings was found.
Pela primeira metade 5 estrelas, pela segunda Some of them even died during the course of his life.
Life would be unbearable if we were truly conscious of it. It’s just page after page of angsty navel-gazing. It is the story of his life, which was very little but intellectual.
Because there are a lot of better things, namely, a lot of better books, waiting on my To Be Read shelf. Give him a mirror and please, please, show him out the door!
All it basically is is a stream of poetic and philosophical quotes that may or may not create a story. It goes on to say that the book was originally started as having been written, though, by a completely different heteronym, but that the subsequent additions and revisions Pessoa made relegated this original character to nothing.
