A book doesn’t have to be Great Literature or even particularly good to appear on my “formative fiction” shelf, it just has to be a book with a meaning that changed me or helped me to understand myself and the world in a new way. Perhaps this is very easy to relate to as a child, since we are developing and as-yet stuck in our egocentric snowglobe built around us by our doting old folks, etc, but it grates pretty hard upon the crusty ears of jaded adulthood. The Harper Hall series is amazing! This is really enjoyable and particularly relevant I’m sure to adolescent girls. She gathers up some food and clothes and escapes through the front door of the sea hold, leaving it unlocked and open during a Fall something she had forgot about in her haste to leave.

I only got so far and decided to put this down.
